Banka District is situated at the far south-east of the state of Bihar. It borders Jharkhand in the east and the districts Jamui, Munger and Bhagalpur in the west, north-east and east respectively. Banka town is its district headquarters. Earlier this district was the sub-division of Bhagalpur and formally came into existence 21st February, 1991. Mandar Hill is the main attraction of the district especially during the time of the fair Bounsi Mela.
