This is one of the most ancient and sacred temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman in Patna.
Situated just in front of the Patna railway junction, the temple has set an example by appointing a Dalit priest alongside the traditional one. Apart from Hanuman, other Hindu deities are kept on the different floors of this temple. This temple is famous for its special prasad called Naivedyam, which is prepared very meticulously by experts from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
In recent historical record is found in the 1948 judgement of Patna High court which states that the temples were established by Swami Balanand a follower of Ramanandi sect in 1730 AD. The court declared it a public temple in 1948 AD which went through renovation work in 1984 with the help of Acharya Kishore Kunal.
Earlier Vairagi Saints lived in the temple but later others of Ramanandi sect was established by Sant Ramanand in the 14th century and Kabir and Tulsidas were disciples. It is due to the influence of Ramanandi sect that statues of Tulsidas and Sant Ravidas are placed at the main entrance. The unique thing about the temple is that two statues of Lord Hanuman are kept in the sanctum, one in blessing mode and other in meditation mode. One is for the protection for the good people and another for the elimination of bad people. Both the statues wear crowns made of gold. Every Floor has a different concept and idols of different deities. There is a “Dhyan Mandap” near the first floor, where the reciting of scriptures and chanting of mantras are conducted.
The first floor has four different sanctums, those of Lord Rama with Shabri, Lord Krishna delivering sermons to Arjuna and that of Goddess Durga. It also has a small temple of Mahadeva with statues of Lord Shiva with Parvati, Nandi. A Shivalinga is kept inside a wooden and glass-built structure. Special thing about this temple is the performance of the famous Rudrabhishek during the month of Shravana.
Yet another unique feature here is the Rama Setu Shila. This 15kg stone is floating on water kept inside a glass box. It is believed that this stone is from Tretayuga, when Lord Rama was building the setu over the sea to Lanka.
There are statues of Lord Ganesh, Lord Buddha, Lord Satyanarayana, Rama-Sita, and Goddess Saraswati here. The bhog is prepared on the fourth floor “Bhandara griha”.
