In this ancient temple, the idol of Bhagwati Tara is said to be very old and draws devotees from far and wide.

Shri Ugratara Mandir, Mahishi, Saharsa is situated at a distance of about 17 Kms west of Saharsa station in Mahishi village. In this ancient temple, the idol of Bhagwati Tara is said to be very old and draws devotees from far and wide. On either side of the main deity, there are two smaller female deities which are worshipped by the people as Ekjata and Nil Saraswati.

The temple is associated with Tantrik cult where saints and other devotees from far and wide across the country assemble during the ten-day-long Sharadiya Navaratra for penance. Although devotees from various parts of the country visit the place throughout the year, the main attraction of the temple is Dussehra in September-October during which more than one lakh people come here to worship the goddess.
