Saran district is also known as Chapara district after the headquarters of the district, Chapra. A few villages in the district are known for its historical and social significance. One such village is the Rampur Kallan, which played an important role in the freedom movement. The district has three sub-divisions - Chapra, Marhaura and Sonpur.
