Buxar as a district came into existence in 1991. Buxar district includes areas under Buxar Sadar and Dumraon sub-division of the old Bhojpur district. Buxar town is the headquarters of the district and its main town. It is famous in the state for its wheat growing areas near the northern boundary where the Ganges flows.
