Rohtas district was created by the bifurcation of Shahabad district into Rohtas and Bhojpur district in 1972. The district is part of the Patna division of Bihar. Hindi, Bhojpuri and English are the major languages spoken in this region. Sasaram is the administrative headquarters of this district.
