Sonepur Mela is one of Asia's largest cattle fairs, organized at the confluence of two mighty rivers, the Ganga and Gandak. Popular since ancient eras for the trading of livestock, this month-long event takes place on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima in the month of November. Hindu devotees flock to the area for a holy dip in River Ganga and Gandak and offer prayers at the Harihar Nath Temple.
The event also offers a host of cultural programs presented by eminent artists with national and international recognition. Thousands of people come from all over the world to attend the fair and leave with unforgettable memories.
